Oh, Philosoraptor

For Grant:

I mean, it’s no Winnipeg Cat, but Philosoraptor really gets to the important questions, ya know?

This is like, so funny, y’know?

Very Mary Kate is an incredibly funny video series created by Elaine Carroll following the (fictional) life of Mary-Kate Olsen as she moves out of her twin sister Ashley’s apartment and sets out on her own.

This is the second video in the series:

The writing is hilarious, and Caroll’s inflection is spot-on. Check out the link above for all of the videos, which are ordered as newest first.

A profane recipe site

Grant and I often have a hard time coming up with things to make for dinner (as I’ve gone on about before). We have our staples, but sometimes we want something different, and are both too easy-going to decide. What do we do in those circumstances? We turn to the internets.

But sometimes, even looking for a recipe online yields too many options, and we just end up shrugging at each other going, “I dunno, what do you want to make?”

Enter “What the Fuck Should I Make for Dinner.”

Here’s an example of what it looks like:

It’s so … angry! I feel like it’s yelling at me, and I was eager to click the first selection (which takes you to the recipe on another site) out of fear that it was going to be mad at me for saying “I don’t fucking like that.”

As you can see, it’s also vegetarian friendly, and I love the disconnect between the foul language and the extravagant sounding recipes.

Great new television sitcom made me real-life LOL

Cross your fingers for this pilot episode to turn into a full new television comedy series.

I made the mistake of starting to watch this at work — but had to bite my knuckles to stop myself from laughing out loud. Shot as a one-off for a Comedy Showcase in the UK, “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” reunites “Arrested Development’ stars Will Arnett and David Cross in a show about an American executive mistakenly sent to England to sell energy drinks.

It’s a fish-out-of-water scenario, but taken to hilarious extremes. And Spike Jonze is in it, too!

Here, in three parts, is the full ep:

Many thanks to lonerboner for posting them to YouTube.

Animal makes my life

Here’s a little Muppet action to get you in the holiday spirit.

Typeface a-go-go … uh, a-ga-ga?

I’m pretty sure I only appreciate this on one level, because I’m not really aware of Lady Gaga videos. But the above is apparently a parody.

All I know is that it’s typographically hilarious.

And that’s good enough for me.

‘Oh look at that: The smoke grenades fit right in the cup holders!’

Many, *many* thanks to John White at the Winnipeg Free Press for posting this video and exhorting people to watch it. He calls it “the most entertaining 11:16 you will spend online this year” and, with the year almost over, he might be right.

I’ve had numerous friends tell me that I should get into the BBC car show “Top Gear” before, but this is the first clip I’ve really watched. Well worth it. I thought that the Blues-Brothers-style car chase through a shopping mall would be the top, but then they used the Ford Fiesta in a beach assault with the Royal Marines.

Let’s squish our fruits together

Those crazy Improv Everywhere kids have struck again, this time at a grocery store in Queens. The song is equal parts a message of unity, equal parts a sexy fruit metaphor, and all hilarious.

And look at all those smiles in the audience! They don’t know what the hell is going on, but it makes them happy! And that’s a pretty good achievement.

If you want to learn how to kiss, DON’T take this advice

I have no idea what the purpose of this video was, if it was a commercial, or an instructional video, but I am enthralled. Not only is it ridiculous with it’s “stats” but the advice is terrible! If a guy ever started trying to suck the air out of my mouth, I would think he was an Incubus trying to take my soul!

And no one, ever, would do the “Music Kiss.” Not ever.

“Birther” proponent gets remixed

I haven’t seen the original interview, or even know who this woman is, or even care because the whole “birther” movement is nuts, but this remix is just too funny.

Yet again I discover something just as it’s over. This time, a comic

Click on the image to see it full-sized. It’s a comic drawn by Tim Kreider, whose work I just discovered. He draw s a weekly cartoon called “The Pain - When Will It End?“. Or, should I say, he drew. Because he’s on hiatus.

Luckily, he has extensive archives at his website. Check them out — I implore you! They are funny and political in a way that so many editorial cartoons lack the cojones to be these days.

Because they are often topical, sometimes the archives feel a bit dated. But, sometimes even years later we’re still fighting the same culture wars we were back then, and the comic still applies. I also find his “artist’s statement” about his cartoons to be well worth my time. Like this one, which starts out “I have had it with the fucking Christians.”

I learned from this interview (fun read) that he also has an enemies list. Now I want an enemies list!

You may also like his contribution to the New York Times’ “Happy Days” blog, in which he talk about having been stabbed in the throat (seriously!) and how it made him happy for a whole year, but didn’t fundamentally change his life:

Once a year on my stabbiversary I remind myself that this is still my bonus life, a free round. But now that I’m back down in the messy, tedious slog of everyday emotional life, I have to struggle to keep things in what I still insist is their true perspective. I know intellectually that all the urgent, pressing items on our mental lists — taxes, car repairs, our careers, the headlines — are so much idiot noise, and that what matters is spending time with people you love. It’s just hard to bear in mind when the hard drive crashes.

I’m adding this guy to my bookmarks list. Also, he likes Miriam Toews!
