Here at Absurd Intellectual, we’re all about community. Okay, we’re partially about community. But community is important to us, that’s the important thing.

It makes us happy to blog about the things that pique our collective interests. But it also makes us happy to know that something we’ve seen, read, listened to, or otherwise found has struck a chord with someone out there in the wild blue yonder of the Internet.

So, heck, if there’s something here you like, leave a comment! If there’s something here you don’t like, leave a critique! If there’s something here that makes you think — work out what you’re thinking, again in the comments.

Unfortunately, there exists a scourge of Internet, called bot-spam. We’d like to avoid that. So we ask that you give us a name (it can be fake!) and an email address (it also can be fake!) when you submit a comment.

We’ll look over your comment, and if it’s not spam or otherwise objectionable (see below) we’ll approve it forthwith. Once you’ve had one comment approved, your other comments will skip the moderation process and be posted immediately — so long as you use the same name and the same email address as the first one.

If you’d like, you can register for the site. That gives you a unique user name, but you’ll have to use a valid email address (that’s where we send you your provisional password — which you can of course change later). New registrations again have to go through the moderation process for their first comment, and once we’re satisfied that you’re a real person (whatever that means, right post-modernists?) you’ll have your comments approved automatically from then on.

Now, mind you, that doesn’t mean you can post any damn thing, willy-nilly! Let’s try to keep the level of discussion to a reasonable civility. That means no ad hominem attacks, no wildly off-topic thread hijacking, no blatant shills, no astroturfing, and no FUD. And a minimum of profanity.

One more house rule, please: no “first post” nonsense. Thanks.

We reserve the right to remove any post that we want, but we’ll try not to over-exercise that power. If you see something in the comments that seems to disregard these rules, please let us know.

We’d also appreciate it if spelling and grammar were at a reasonable level. We’re not perfect, and we’re not going to enforce the Strunk and White Elements of Style here, but why not, you know, try.

Oh look, there’s a fancy RSS feed up there at the top of the page, too. We’re not really sure how it works, but it came with the site, so we’re pretty sure it works great.
