Why yes, I would like to post this seven-foot-tall chart along my wall, and mark in pencil when I finally was taller than Yoda, or R2-D2, or even Leia.

And that’s what one self-proclaimed “Geeky Dad” did for his daughter, who is about to turn one, and is therefore probably a little taller than the tribbles that litter the bottom of the chart

Says Geeky Dad:

My daughter is turning one soon, and  I decided we needed a growth chart as awesome as she is.  After a bit of tinkering in Pages, and a bunch of hemming and hawing, this is the result.  As a friend pointed out, all that’s missing is Batman.

Everybody’s favourite bounty hunter is a pretty good role model for those of you trying to make a go of it in this post-corporate world! Aspire to greatness, even if it means you have to put up with some shit from clients every now and again (whaddya mean, no disintegrations!) and even if it means your “retirement” is likely to feel a lot like being slowly digested for a thousand years.

There is not a single one of these movies that I would not watch. Also, damn if I don’t not love double negatives!

This image of Darth Vader’s iconic head (technically, his mask) has been created out of the script of the original “Star Wars” movie, which is pretty cool.

I think this new drawing-in-text fad is kind of cool — it’s the new pointillism — but doomed to be a fad.

Still, the creator of this piece, David Johns, is offering very large poster prints for ya.

Now this is ‘Star Wars’ piracy I can get behind — a stormtrooper/Jolly Roger mash-up! Ever since I first saw this photo, I’ve been imagining post-Empire days in the Star Wars universe, when the Rebellion was still fairly weak, but the power structure of the Empire had crumbled, and I’d totally bet that loads of those star destroyers quickly went ‘privateer.’

This pic was taken by globe-trotting journalism consultant (how can I get that job?) Robb Montgomery, who posted it on twitpic and commented that:

Ironic: When Star Wars debuted this store did not exist, the location where it is now being sold was behind the wall, and East Berliners were not allowed to see the movie.

Because ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ just turned 30 (I have extremely fuzzy memories of seeing it in the drive-in … I think), and because it has been universally agreed to be the best of the two trilogies, there have been a ton of retrospectives written about its impact in the past few days.

But I think I prefer this, uncovered by the LA Times. It’s Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, on the Today Show in 1980. Now that’s the flavour of the time:

Stormtroopers stymied by Optimus Prime? Not only is it geek-nirvana, it’s just a single one of the many Flickr shots that Stéfan has posted as part of his Stormtrooper 365 project: “Your daily shot of Stormtroopers. For one year.”

It started April 3, 2009, so he’s almost done, but that just means there are loads of awesome shots to browse through!
