What next, fashion? What next.

As if the world of fashion (should I refer to it as fashion? Probably not. Oh well) could get any more ridiculous, here are Junderpants!

Similar to Jeggings, Junderpants are boxers meant to look like jean shorts.

What. The. Eff.

I originally saw this at Dlisted, which got it from OMG Blog. All of the other sites link to the OMG Blog post, so I have no idea if this is even for real. Let’s hope not.

Awesome life-like T-Rex costume

I absolutely love this video. The costume is so life-like, and it’s really funny to watch the kids get scared, then see them getting bold, only to be scared again. Even though they know it’s fake, it’s obviously hard to separate what they know with what they’re seeing, especially when it roars at them.

The T-Rex made a visit to promote the show Walking with Dinosaurs.

Best dad? Or worst dad?

Redditor mp3thief uploaded the above, saying “I’m no longer allowed near my daughter’s colouring books.”

Obviously. Brr.

For the uninitiated, the above creepy rabbit is from the movie Donnie Darko, which absolutely flopped at the box office, but became a cult favourite for it’s exploration into time travel. It’s also one of Jake Gyllenhaal’s first roles. Here’s the trailer, with a couple of glimpes of Frank the bunny:

It’s really good. Go watch it. Now!

It’s almost Easter time again, so you know what that means! No, no, not the end of Lent. It means bunnies! And candy! More specifically, the candy that only comes out at Easter, like Mini Eggs, and the ooey gooey favourite, Cadbury Creme Eggs.

Cadbury comes up with some interesting ads to sell their candy, especially the creme eggs. You might remember the ones where the rabbit lays a chocolate egg. That one is kind of weird, for obvious reasons, but also kind of cute.

In the last couple of years, though, Cadbury has come out with a series of ads for the creme eggs where the eggs are apparently committing suicide in order to “release the goo.” Yes, I just said commit suicide. Watch!

That is just creepy! Or there’s this one:

The eggs are straight up suicidal! This does not make me want a creme egg, when all I can think of is the poor suicidal eggs. Kind of like the Excel commercial using the adorable little mascots, making me feel sorry for them. It’s not very good advertising when I feel compassion towards inanimate objects like creme eggs, or concepts like bad breath!

52 Mix Tapes

In the early stages of our relationship, Grant and I would make each other mix tapes. Well, mix playlists, really, for our respective Ipods, but the sentiment was the same.

It’s kind of a lost art, the mix tape. I remember making them from songs on the radio when I was younger, waiting and listening all night until I got the song I wanted. And I would always be so angry when the DJ kept talking over the intro of the song. Actually, I still hate that.

Luckily, there are a certain group of people who are still making mix tapes (and I just realized how funny it was that we still call them “tapes”) and sharing them online. Mostly I think it’s people who grew up making tapes for their friends, who are now utilizing the Internet to keep sharing. Heather over at I Am Fuel, You Are Friends, makes awesome mix tapes. Then I came across a cool project from Tyler Hellard, the writer (and fellow Canadian!) of the blog Pop Loser.

Tyler too loves the mix tape. It’s such a personal and special way to share the music you love with the people you love. So he decided to start 52 Mix Tapes, where he will post (with the help of contributors) a different mix tape every week. It’s been really cool to see the variety of mixes, from Metal, to “Ones” which is all side one, track ones, inspired of course by High Fidelity.

I definitely encourage everyone to check it out, just to see the variety of music people enjoy, and the different themes they work in.

Sub City New York

This short film is about the moment when you emerge from the subway in New York, to find an interesting and sometimes unexpected world above.

It reminds me of when Grant and I visited New York a few years back. We had taken the train from Montreal, and it was in the evening, so before we submerged to arrive at Penn Station, we only saw a glimpse of the city. The subway to our hotel was mostly underground until we had to leave Manhattan (we were staying in Long Island City in Queens) and again, we only saw a glimpse. We checked in, got a little settled, and immediately got back on the subway. It was our first night in the Big City, we were going to check it out!

Deciding where to go at 9 at night after they just had a snow storm was kind of tricky, but we ended up picking Times Square; it was only a few short stops from our hotel. We got off, and started taking the stairs up to ground level. About half way up at the Times Square station, the light started to hit us. Grant and I looked at each other like, “did we just go back in time?” We emerged finally to this incredible sea of lights, signs, and buildings. It was like we stepped into the middle of the afternoon. It was like another world.

The video itself isn’t particularly extraordinary, but what it does so beautifully is evoke a moment in time for every New Yorker and every visitor.

Sunday Song

I love this song by Toronto band Sweet Thing. I first heard “Lazy Susan” on CBC Radio 2. At first I was only half listening, but when the chorus kicked in, I really started to pay attention. It has this great 70′s pop/funk vibe, and the vocals reminded me of the BeeGees. I absolutely love it.

The video is pretty cute too, with all the helpful and informative captions!

Their self titled first album is getting good reviews, and their song “Change of Seasons” is getting some pretty heavy rotation. Check out their Myspace for more!

When Lost ended, a lot of people were left unsatisfied, and even angry. They didn’t feel that the questions and issues the show posed had been answered. (My opinion is that maybe people didn’t watch closely enough, because I felt the writers answered most, if not all of the questions. They just didn’t do it in a way that was screamingly obvious. Because that would be boring.)

It turns out, others feel the same way! I came across Lost Answers, a blog devoted to answering the questions of Lost viewers left confused. It’s written by Cody Johnston, the self proclaimed “scientist” who also blogs here.

Now, Cody doesn’t have some special insight into the answers, like looking in Damon Lindelof’s Lost diaries, but I think he makes pretty good assumptions based on the fact that he watched the whole show, and is looking at it from a larger thematic point of view.

He’s also funny.

How did the magic wheel work again?

As I discussed in a previous post, the short answer is “magic.”  If you’re being as sarcastic as I think you are, then this is a case of “I don’t like the explanation” and not “I didn’t get an explanation.” The show had magical elements since day one when crippled John Locke wiggled his toes. If you’re not satisfied with the fact that a “magic wheel” works in a way involving magic, and you think that this is an unanswered question and that there is more information to be learned on the subject, then I suggest that you look into what the word “magic” means.   But, if you’re an earnest anonymous person (the rarest form of anonymous person) and you’re looking for a little more detail…

The wheel harnesses the Source, or the “Heart of the Island.” The Source is a combination of water, a mystical Light emanating from within the Island, and electromagnetism. It is the source of life, death, and rebirth, and The Island is where it is housed. The radiation of this energy, water, and Light combination is extremely powerful and important, as it clearly has the capability to manipulate time and space. The wheel was built to harness and manipulate the Source’s power. If you’d like detailed schematics of the wheel, then maybe you should go fuck yourself.

Hopefully that helps. If not, then let’s go with “Midichlorians did it.”

Definitely bookmark his page if you want funny, yet insightful answers to those burning Lost questions.

Saturday Song

My god can Adele sing.

For those who don’t know her, Adele is a singer from London, only 20 and possessing a voice well beyond her years. Her first album 19 was a huge smash in England, but she didn’t break out in the states until she performed on SNL (the same episode Sarah Palin was on). She’s since won a multitude of awards, including a couple of Grammy’s.

She released her second album 21 just last week, and “Rolling in the Deep” is the lead track. I heard it on the radio the other day and was blown away. Her voice absolutely knocks you out, and the thumping drums and backup vocals make for a powerful listening experience.

Aloe Blacc is a soul singer whose sound is so wonderfully retro that when I first heard him, I had a hard time believing he wasn’t from the ’70s.

Blacc just released his second album Good Things in 2010, which this song is from.

Aloe Blacc – I Need A Dollar

(Yeah, the Saturday Song already turned into a Sunday Song. I knew trying to post on Saturday wouldn’t help.)

Well, I sure haven’t done this in awhile! I always seem to forget it’s Monday, and by the time Tuesday rolls around, I realize, “crap! I didn’t do Music Mondays!”

So I thought that maybe if I did it on Saturday instead, I would remember. Maybe.

Anyway, here’s a song from Baltimore band Beach House, who have been reaping critical acclaim since their first album came out in 2006.

Their latest album is called Teen Dream, and “Zebra” is the first track on the album.

Beach House – Zebra

I like the way the guitar lazily rolls along, producing a dreamy, relaxed kind of mood.
