Ok, folks.  Here it is.  A non-animated short from the early ’90s directed by a famous, well, director.

Bedhead is a 1991 short by Robert Rodriguez.  There are some elements and themes here that continue on in his work on today.  Well, maybe not TODAY today, what with Machete being released today and all, but you know what I mean.

Anyways.  Bedhead:

And if you aren’t aware of Machete — shame on you.  Certainly it is bound to be the best full-length movie based on a fake movie trailer to date.  Here’s the real trailer for the real movie based on the fake trailer (probably NSFW – language and all).

  1. What gets me about Machete, and I was not aware of the fake trailer within a movie connection, is the wild leap from the Spy kids franchise also from Troublemaker Studios. We have enjoyed the Spy kids Series over the years and as soon as I saw the trailer and poster I saw the connections.

Interestingly enough there will be a ton of people who grew up watching the Spy Kids movies who will be drawn instantly to Machete simply because of familiarity. Rumour has it that there are some further crossovers back to the 4th Spy Kids movie as far as actors are concerned.

I know there will be no storyline crossover but rather it is more of a Rodriguez riffing on a character in a parallel existence sort of way.
