Newspapers abandoned their readers long before readers abandoned their newspapers.
Jesse Brown, of course, has a vested interest in the denigration and stifling of newspapers — working for the Ceeb (a service I find vital and use daily, but…let’s face it, they’d never survive with the rules newspapers have to play by).
That sort of critical thinking is what newspapers SHOULD (key word there) capitalize on and promote (along with context and more in-depth content. Not to mention setting the agenda and initiating stories, as opposed to passively reporting after the fact)
If they can stop dumbing down and imitating TV and gossip tabloids, that is…
