I can’t decide what I like best about this “Duelling Banjos” video. Is it:

a) Muppets playing bluegrass?

b) The explosive finale?

c) The fact that Steve Martin appears to be dressed up like Han Solo?

Found this clip at Boing Boing, where they inform me that it’s from 1977, and it’s Martin with “Lubbock Lou and His Jughuggers.” Great band name.

  1. Steve Martin released a new bluegrass album recently..he’s been a stellar player since forever.

I think everyone dressed like Han Solo back then. Sounds like a fad that needs revivin’

  2. Yes! Han Solo was dreamy…

I just saw Steve playing his banjo on tv last week, very nice.

  3. I don’t think that style’s too far off, actually. I’ve seen a lot of vests on sale, and floppy collars are still bumping around. With summer, you can even get away with opening them up way down the chest. Add some appropriate pants, and you’re one bad bounty hunter!

As to banjo playing, you could waste a whole afternoon on youtube with a search for “steve martin banjo”. There’s no shame in that. I just did.

  4. Smuggler. Han Solo was a smuggler, who was chased by bounty hunters.

  5. If you open the collar a little more and add some gold chains, you can change that smuggler look into a pretty spankin’ leisure suit. booyah.

and yes, after watching the video, i did a search for steve martin playing the banjo. it was awesome.
