A video called “The Story of Stuff” is making its way — viral-style — through schools around the world. But it’s not exactly an unbiased teaching tool. Well, perhaps it is — perhaps it just removes the pro-capitalist bias and the pro-faux-balance bias that most teaching (and journalism) have.
At any rate, it’s a thought-provoking, extremely effective, and deliciously pointed critique of consumerism.
Here it is (it’s 20 minutes long, so set aside some time — but do watch it!):
The New York Times calls it “a cheerful but brutal assessment of how much Americans waste.”
