Elvis Perkins is one of my favourite artists whose debut album — the achingly beautiful and poetic Ash Wednesday — is one those desert island albums. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw that there are three new songs to stream on his website.
Even though he broke my heart this summer by not showing up to the Winnipeg Folk Fest, I think all can be forgiven with these songs.
His first album was a solo effort, but since then he’s been doing recordings with his touring band Dearland, and the results are marvelous. The new album is titled Elvis in Dearland, and based on these three songs, I think I’m going to start counting down the days until it’s released.
Shampoo is in my mind the strongest of the three, a rolicking, almost gothic-sounding tune that has me dancing in my seat.
I am beyond excited.
